Cholla Driftwood is the dried inner skeleton of the Cholla Cactus, prized in the aquarium hobby—especially for shrimp & pleco tanks. Its hollow, porous structure offers excellent shelter for shrimp and small fry or pleco , while also promoting biofilm growth, an essential natural food source for baby shrimp and fish.
You can also use it creatively by attaching mosses, Marimo Balls, Bucephalandra, Anubias, or other aquatic plants to create a sunken log aesthetic in your aquascape.
Natural Shelter – Ideal hiding place for freshwater shrimp and fry or pleco
Promotes Biofilm Growth – Encourages the growth of beneficial microorganisms, supporting a healthy tank ecosystem.
Versatile Decoration – Easily attach mosses or aquatic plants to enhance your aquascape.
Tannin Release – May cause slight water discoloration (yellow/brown); this is normal and fades over time.
Length: Approximately 4 - 12 inches
Diameter: Roughly 1.5 – 3 inches for 4–6 inch pieces; longer pieces (12 inches) may be wider.
Note: Each piece is natural and unique. Some variation in size and appearance is to be expected.
✅ Rinse thoroughly before placing in your aquarium.
🔥 Optional: Boil for 1–2 hours to reduce tannin release and help the wood become waterlogged more quickly.
💧 Use activated carbon in your filter to help clear up any temporary discoloration caused by tannins.
Best suited for freshwater shrimp , small fry or pleco fish
