L201 Snowball Pleco | Hypancistrus sp.

The L201 Snowball Pleco (Hypancistrus sp.), sometimes referred to as the Orinoco Angel Pleco, is a striking dwarf pleco known for its jet-black body covered with bright white polka dots. This dramatic contrast gives the fish a “snowball” appearance and makes it one of the most attractive plecos available for freshwater aquariums.

Unlike many common plecos that grow extremely large, the Snowball Pleco remains relatively small and manageable. With a maximum size of around 5.5–6.3 inches, it is well suited for community aquariums and planted tanks. Its peaceful temperament and unique pattern make it a favorite among pleco collectors and aquascaping enthusiasts.

Snowball Plecos are mostly nocturnal, spending the day hiding among rocks, driftwood, and caves. Once established in the aquarium, they may become more active during daylight hours. While they are not heavy wood-eaters like Panaque species, they benefit from having driftwood and natural surfaces where biofilm can develop.

This species does not typically damage aquatic plants and generally ignores other fish tank mates. However, very small shrimp may occasionally be eaten.
