The Roseline Shark, also known as the Denisonii Barb or Red Line Torpedo Barb, is one of the most striking freshwater fish in the aquarium hobby. This species is recognized for its sleek torpedo-shaped body, bold red stripe running from the nose through the eye, and contrasting black lateral line.
Their streamlined shape and vibrant coloration make them a standout fish in larger aquariums. When kept in groups, Roseline Sharks create an impressive display as they swim actively through the tank.
Because of their beauty and energetic behavior, they are a popular choice for large community aquariums and planted tanks.
• Distinct bright red stripe with bold black lateral line
• Sleek torpedo-shaped body built for fast swimming
• Very active schooling fish
• Beautiful centerpiece species for large aquariums
Roseline Sharks are peaceful but very active schooling fish that should be kept in groups of at least 5–6 individuals. When kept alone or in small numbers, they may become stressed.
They do best with other medium-sized peaceful community fish.
Suitable tank mates include:
• Larger barbs
• Rainbowfish
• Gouramis
• Peaceful cichlids
• Corydoras catfish
Avoid keeping them with very small fish that may be intimidated by their fast movement.
Roseline Sharks require large aquariums with plenty of swimming space, as they are very active fish.
Recommended aquarium features include:
• Large tank with open swimming areas
• Strong filtration and good oxygenation
• Driftwood and rocks for structure
• Moderate to strong water flow
A well-planted aquarium with open swimming space works well for this species.
Roseline Sharks are omnivores and will accept a variety of foods.
Recommended foods include:
• High-quality pellets
• Flakes
• Frozen bloodworms
• Brine shrimp
• Daphnia
• Vegetable-based foods
Providing a varied diet helps maintain their health and vibrant coloration.
